Tradition and future

The Jüngerhans shipping company looks back on a 120-year old tradition in shipping. The traditional family run operation is today one of the leading providers of modern container and heavy lift vessels and based in Haren (Ems).

Already in the 19th century, the great grandfather of the brothers Stefan and Herm Jüngerhans crossed the Atlantic headed for South America with the Spitzpünte (sailing vessel with a punt-like construction) "HELENE". The vessel was built in 1890 in Haren (Ems) for "deep sea" trading and, with a length of 40 metres, had a loading capacity of 220 tonnes.

The following generations also continued the family tradition and became active as independent shipping company owners. From the single vessel shipping company and the coastal motor vessels of the founding years, a modern shipping company group has developed in past decades. A total of approximately 100 vessels was ordered in this period from select shipyards around the world and commissioned. It has already been possible to successfully resell approximately half of them. Today all vessels are active throughout the world. The year 2000 marked the entry into the segment of heavy lift vessel shipping and at the same time the succession of generations in the business management.

In 1971 a vessel was financed according to a "limited partnership business entity model" for the first time. It has since always been possible to achieve positive earnings for investors. Due to the constant addition of new vessels and the sale of older units, the Jüngerhans shipping company now has a very young and modern fleet. The company group has also expanded through cooperations and holdings. This has both solidified the market position and opened up new fields of activity. The family company, which is still managed by its owners, currently employs approximately 700 people ashore and at sea.
