MS "RIKE J" Christened Celebrating the First of Three New Ships

21.01.2026

With a ceremony in keeping with maritime tradition, we celebrated the christening of the new container ship MS "RIKE J" in Wilhelmshaven. Built by the Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industries shipyard, the vessel will further improve energy efficiency within the fleet of the family-run shipping company. The "RIKE J" is the first of three new ships that Jüngerhans will receive by 2027.

The ship's godmother at the Southwest Terminal was Friederike Rolfs, known as Rike, daughter of the shipping company's managing director, Herm Jüngerhans. The christening follows the tradition of naming ships after family members or constellations.

With the "RIKE J" and the subsequent new ships, our fleet will be gradually modernized. We have already been able to significantly improve energy efficiency with this latest addition. Preparations for the use of methanol as fuel also contribute to this improvement. Furthermore, for the first time on a feeder ship, dedicated spaces for battery technology are being provided. Overall, the new ship consumes up to 30 percent less fuel than slightly older vessels of the same size.

In the second quarter of 2026 and the third quarter of 2027, the "RIKE J" will be joined by two sister ships. This newly developed vessel type is part of a series of 18 units ordered so far, in cooperation with several shipping companies and through the Hamburg-based chartering broker Arkona Allied Container, at two shipyards.
